Here&#8217;s a mixed bag of strategies I use to ensure I don&#8217;t bring the stress home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>End-of-Day Rituals<\/strong>: &#8220;Every day, before leaving my desk, I write down one success and one thing I could improve on. It helps me close the day with a sense of accomplishment and a goal for tomorrow.&#8221; \u2014 this little habit signals that it&#8217;s time to switch off from work mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Drive Home<\/strong>: Turning my commute into a decompression chamber is essential. I alternate between energizing music and engaging audiobooks. It&#8217;s about making the transition from counselor to my personal life as smooth as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mindfulness Moments<\/strong>: Here\u2019s a quick win\u2014mindful breathing! Even a few minutes can act like a system reset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Try This<\/strong>: Inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, and repeat. Simple yet effective at melting away the day&#8217;s stress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Journaling: Unload to Reload<\/strong>: Not every day is a breakthrough day. Sometimes, it&#8217;s about getting through. That\u2019s where my journal comes in handy: &#8220;Reflective journaling in the evening helps me leave the professional &#8216;me&#8217; on paper and not carry her home.&#8221; \u2014 Putting pen to paper is a powerful way to process the day\u2019s challenges and triumphs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lean on Your Tribe<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Coffee with Colleagues<\/strong>: Sometimes a quick coffee break with a fellow counselor can make all the difference.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Professional Supervision<\/strong>: Regular check-ins ensure I&#8217;m not alone in this journey.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prioritizing Me<\/strong>: I love unwinding with a bit of yoga or a walk. It\u2019s about finding what recharges your batteries and making it a non-negotiable part of your day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mixing up these techniques helps me maintain my balance, ensuring I&#8217;m the best for my students when I&#8217;m on the clock, and the best for myself and my family when I\u2019m not.
